Irina claimed it to be an unforgettable experience, and who would be better than herself to share it with us? So, here’s Irina Meyer, sharing Mama Lion Productions’ journey at Cannes in her own words.
Q: Irina, what motivated you to start Mama Lion Productions and champion women in the film industry?
A: The absence of authenticity and global representation of modern women in Film/TV inspired me. My motivation behind Mama Lion Productions was to create a platform where talented female voices from around the world could thrive, presenting their stories to a wider audience.
Q: Hi Jackie, can you tell us about your experience working with Mama Lion Productions?
A: Absolutely! As a producer with Mama Lion Productions, it has been an exciting journey from the very beginning. Working alongside Irina and the talented team she assembled has been nothing short of amazing. We’re on a fierce mission to promote women in the media.
Q: How was your Cannes experience this year, and what were some highlights from the festival?
A: Cannes 2023 surpassed all expectations. The festival provided us with an unforgettable experience, allowing us to showcase our work at the Marché du Film. Connecting with filmmakers and lovers of film from around the world was both inspiring and eye-opening. We are so excited about the new opportunities that will come.
Q: Irina, speaking of interacting with filmmakers from different regions, how is Mama Lion Productions focusing on Central and Latin American productions?
A: Central and Latin America have rich stories waiting to be told, and Mama Lion Productions is committed to giving these stories the platform they deserve. As a company, we believe in amplifying diverse voices and bringing a fresh perspective to the global audience.
Q: You mentioned visiting the WIFT panel discussion at the Israeli pavilion. Can you share more about that experience?
A: Visiting the Women in Film and Television (WIFT) panel discussion at the Israeli pavilion was remarkable. Very grateful to Osnat Bukofzer of WIFT Israel for putting it together! The panel showed the contributions of women in the industry, and each speaker shed light on their challenges and triumphs. It was, without a doubt, the most memorable event of Cannes 2023 for me.
Q: Irina, what’s next for Mama Lion Productions after Cannes, and what can we expect from the company in the future?
A: We are looking forward to attending more festivals, making meaningful relationships, and expanding our global presence. Also, stay tuned for the release of our first feature documentary, “I Am Not A Princess.” A story of upliftment, resilience, and women empowerment.
